Sessions that Work
Stop sessions that drain your and the participants energy!
Recognise this? You’ve prepared intensively, however during the session all energy seems to dissipate. The silences are overwhelming. Participants are not engaging at all. And you wonder: “Where did I go wrong?”
Or maybe this? You want to facilitate the group with out leading the content, but you notice people are looking for you to lead and to have all the answers. You believe in the power of the group, but don’t know how to access it without taking matters into your own hands. It’s uncomfortable and perhaps a bit scary.
The issue
A lot of professionals that facilitate groups are dealing with the same thing: sessions without real results. Participants are physically there but mentally absent. At the end of the meeting you hear the horrific words: “This should have been an email”
The ROTI (Return On Time Invested) is low, and you feel responsible.
We have been there too. One time René had to facilitate a session that he did not design – a Power Point with way too much info per slide. And he didn’t agree with the content, so was unable to facilitate with conviction of what he was doing. The result, there was no appreciation at all. For him this was a turning point: “Never again!”
Pascal once though facilitation was nothing more than bringing people together and they would magically do their thing. But he knows now that designing the right questions, format and interactions is what is essential to creating a session that fulfills it’s purpose.
Smarter preparations, more impact
The solution isn’t working harder or doing more preparations, but the opposite – prepare smarter and work less hard during the session. By using simple structures and smarter interactions you’ll facilitate sessions:
- Where people take ownership as a group
- Where energy is build up instead of dissipates
- Where real results are being achieved without endless discussions
- Where you as a facilitator feel more at ease and work with confidence
